WASP - Our After School Wraparound Provision

We are delighted to be celebrating the continued success of our wraparound after-school provision, WASP. For many of our families, WASP provides invaluable childcare from 3.15pm until 5.30pm each day, but for our children it is so much more than that. WASP is a place to play, create, explore, socialise and have fun after the school day ends.

This year, we have made our offer even more exciting with themed activities running throughout the week. Children can enjoy Yummy Snack Making on Mondays, Arts and Crafts on Tuesdays, Sensory Play on Wednesdays, Epic Quizzes and Challenges on Thursdays, and Sports and Games on Fridays. Alongside these special themed sessions, children continue to enjoy role play, construction activities, outdoor adventures, games and a healthy snack each afternoon.

The feedback from children has been incredibly positive, and it has been fantastic to see pupils staying after school to spend time with friends, learn new skills and take part in activities they genuinely love. If your child has not yet experienced WASP, why not give it a try? Spaces can be booked for and paid through Arbor and we'd love to welcome even more children to join the fun.

We also have a super special event day coming up on the 19th and 21st October at WASP! This term, the theme is Kawaii and Anime and children will have an incredible range of one-off activities such as giant comic making, themed temporary tattoos and making their own Soot Sprites! Please do sign up to one of these sessions if your child is interested in Japanse pop culture; they won't want to miss out!

Year 6 Homework Launch

Thank you to all Year 6 families who attended our recent homework launch meeting. It was wonderful to see such strong engagement as we begin this important final primary school year together.

During the meeting, we shared how our school timetable has been carefully designed to prioritise daily practice of the key fluency skills that children need to be successful: reading, spelling, grammar and mathematics. We explained how these small, regular sessions help children build confidence, accuracy and independence, and how we hope families will mirror this commitment at home.

Families can now access a series of helpful homework videos on the Year 6 page, designed to support children and parents with expectations throughout the year. We strongly encourage all families to make use of these resources and to establish positive homework routines from the very beginning. When school and home work together, children make exceptional progress. Videos will be shared by the Year 6 teachers every Thursday and homework sheets due to back for marking and celebrating on the Monday!

That's a (W)Rap! National Poetry Day

Last week, City Academy Whitehawk came alive with words, rhythm and creativity as we celebrated National Poetry Day with our very own"That's a (W)Rap Day!"

Across the school, children took part in poetry games with their buddy classes, explored the power of language and performed incredible story raps. The atmosphere throughout the day was electric, with classrooms filled with laughter, collaboration and some truly impressive performances.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly our rap battle competition. Every class brought enthusiasm and originality to the challenge, but a huge congratulations must go to Falcons Class, who were crowned champions following their unforgettable rap rendition of Each Peach Pear Plum. Their performance had everyone talking and was a worthy winner.

Families will have the opportunity to watch the class videos during Tuesday's Family Consultation Evening, so please do come along and enjoy seeing the creativity, confidence and teamwork that our children demonstrated so brilliantly.
