It has been an incredibly exciting and successful Arts Week across the school, culminating in a really special celebration of creativity. From Nursery through to Year 6, the quality of the final pieces produced by the children was truly exceptional. It was wonderful to see children demonstrating our CAW Qualities of Aspiration, Excellence and Effort as they explored different artistic styles, techniques and geographical inspirations throughout the week.

Alongside the fantastic main artwork pieces produced by each year group this week, there were also some brilliant additional creative projects that really captured the imagination of visitors and families alike. Year 3’s immersive glow worm installation which created a real sense of wonder and excitement, whilst Year 6 impressed everyone with their fantastic music video project. The atmosphere around the school all week was vibrant, enthusiastic and full of pride in the children’s achievements.

We were also delighted to welcome a special visitor from the Brighton Festival, who had heard about our strong commitment to the creative arts and was keen to see our work in action. She was absolutely blown away by the school’s dedication to the arts, the quality and detail of the children’s pieces and the genuine excitement and enthusiasm shown by pupils throughout the week. It was wonderful to see the children speak so confidently and proudly about their work and to have their creativity recognised so positively by someone from the wider arts community.

Year 1 Phonics Meeting 

This week, many of our Year 1 families were also welcomed into school by Miss Delaney, our Early Reading Leader, to learn more about the Phonics Screening Check taking place after half term. We are incredibly grateful to the many families who attended the session and continue to work in partnership with us to support their child’s reading development. We also appreciate them being willing to sit in the tiny chairs! Reading remains one of the most important skills children learn during their primary years, and the support children receive both at school and at home makes a tremendous difference to their confidence and progress.

Reading Raffle 5

There was also great excitement this week as Reading Raffle 5 was drawn, with many happy winners taking home new books and prizes. Here are just three of them pictured! It was fantastic to see so many golden tickets included from children completing additional reading challenges, such as our Easter Reading Challenge. Year 1 have an extra chance to earn golden tickets through their Half Term Fred Work Out reading pack from Miss Delaney! Our final bumper Reading Raffle is now officially underway, with another exciting selection of books on offer. Please see the poster attached below. To earn a ticket, children simply need to read five times at home, so we encourage all families to continue making reading a regular part of the week.

As we reach the end of another busy half term, I would like to thank all of our families for your continued support. We hope you have a restful and enjoyable break and return refreshed and ready for the final term of the school year. Attendance and effort from children remain of paramount importance, and the fantastic work of our attendance team, alongside the enthusiasm surrounding our gold coin initiative, continues to make a real difference across the school.

I look forward to welcoming everyone back on 1st June. A reminder that tomorrow is an INSET day for children.
