A big well done to the Year Five and Six Boys’ football team who represented City Academy Whitehawk with such pride yesterday. They showed wonderful collaboration, respect and resilience (three of our CAW Qualities), and were a real credit to the school. Frankie T and Albie scored brilliant goals too!
Remembrance Day
It was an honour and a privilege for me to lead the whole school in a one-minute silence on Tuesday for Armistice Day. The children were so respectful of this important date commemorating those who have given their lives to allow us to live in our democratic society. The Whitehawk World War II air raid shelter that runs the length of our playground was a fitting backdrop.
We will remember them.

Anti-Bullying Week and Children In Need
Anti-Bullying Week is such an important nationwide event to help support children to be open about any worries they may have. We ran some wonderful ‘vertical learning’ activities that gave children an opportunity to work with other classes, and it was beautiful to see the older children supporting younger year groups. This is such a great way for children to know that they are all part of one school and that we are all here to support each other.
Bullying is not tolerated at City Academy Whitehawk. If your child has any concerns about bullying, please reach out to me so that we can support them.
We celebrated Children in Need yesterday with a non-uniform day, and it was great to hear the children speaking so kindly about helping others. If you’d like to make a voluntary donation to such a wonderful cause, here’s the link to the CAW fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/caw-childreninneed
INSET Day
We’re working with the other six schools in the Aurora Academy Trust during today’s INSET Day to share ideas and develop our teaching. It’s great to be part of such a collaborative organisation that has so much experience and expertise, and we’re excited to put this training into action next week.
Have a great weekend, and I’ll see you on the gate on Monday morning,
Russell Wood
