Upper Key Stage 2 (Y5/6)
KS2 Mathematics at CAW
To best meet the needs of children in Maths we adopt our Maths lessons are taught as a whole class where our less confident learner’s tasks are scaffolded effectively to access the same content and our more confident learners are provided with opportunities to expand and master their skillset.
Just like in our Mathematics Mastery curriculum, to provide sound mathematics understanding we carefully introduce new in three steps:
Concrete– children should have the opportunity to use concrete objects and manipulatives to help them understand what they are doing.
Pictorial – alongside this children should use pictorial representations. These representations can then be used to help reason and solve problems.
Abstract – both concrete and pictorial representations should support children’s understanding of abstract methods.
