Headteacher’s Update

Friday 23rd January 2026

Equal Access School Award

We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded the Equal Access School Award in recognition of our commitment to providing equal sporting opportunities to all children, regardless of gender. We are so proud of our fantastic girls’ football team, who have shown incredible competitive spirit in all of their matches, as well as such great collaboration with each other. You can see them proudly wearing the girls’ football kit that they helped to design, and they even came up with the team motto ‘Respect All, Fear None.’

Mrs. Brown, our specialist PE Teacher, works so hard to organise sporting events for all of our teams and year groups, and we are very, very proud to represent Whitehawk.

Family Consultations, Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th February

We are looking forward to the Family Consultations in Week 5 this term. These are really important meetings for teachers to share updates on how your children are doing at school, both academically and socially. You can book appointments through the Arbor App: if you have any problems doing this, please speak to me or the Office Staff and we’ll be happy to help you get set up.

As well as Class Teachers, you are able to book appointments with our leadership team if you have specific areas you’d like to discuss:

  • Keith Kelsey (Behaviour and Personal Development)

  • Gabby Gosztonyi (Inclusion SENDCo)

  • Sarah Orchard (Welfare and Safeguarding)

  • Russell Wood (Headteacher)

Our school's maths focus

Maths is one of our key School Improvement Objectives, and I am so grateful to our wonderful staff team for the exceptional work they do to deliver such great support for the children. We work closely with the Aurora Academies Trust to develop staff so that we can teach the best maths lessons possible...and make them fun too!

To further support the Year Six children, we are proud to be offering Maths Mentoring sessions after school on a Wednesday afternoon, starting on Wednesday 11th February. These are lovely small group sessions run by teachers who are able to give really focused tutoring support, as well as enjoying some snacks with the children while they work!

Have a great weekend and I’ll look forward to seeing you on the gate on Monday morning,

Russell Wood
