    SPORTS PREMIUM FUNDING SPEND 2025-26

Please see our Sports Premium Report in the documents section below.

£9,850 – Contribution towards the cost of the PE Specialist

Funding contributed towards the employment of a PE Specialist who delivered high- quality PE teaching to every class from Years 1–6 for one hour each week, ensuring all pupils received consistent, progressive and engaging physical education. The PE Specialist also provided ongoing CPD and team teaching opportunities for class teachers, improving staff confidence, knowledge and competence in delivering high-quality PE lessons. Regular staff training sessions were delivered to develop curriculum delivery and inclusive practice across the school. In addition, the PE Specialist coordinated a wide range of inter-school competitions and sporting events, ensuring every pupil in Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to represent the school on at least one sporting trip during the academic year. Swimming provision for Years 3–6 was also organised, enabling pupils to access a six-week block of swimming lessons to develop essential water safety and swimming skills. This investment has significantly improved the quality of PE provision, increased participation in competitive sport, enhanced staff expertise and provided pupils with a wider range of sporting experiences.

£2,500 – Transport to Fixtures and Competitions

Funding was used to provide transport to a wide range of inter-school competitions, festivals and sporting events, ensuring pupils could access opportunities beyond the school environment regardless of financial barriers. Throughout the year, pupils represented the school in football leagues, cricket festivals including events at Hove Cricket Ground, racket sports festivals at Withdean Sports Complex, indoor and outdoor athletics competitions at Withdean and BACA, hockey festivals at Blatchington Mill and leadership events supported by Year 11 Sports Leaders from Patcham High School. These experiences increased pupils' confidence, resilience and enjoyment of sport while allowing them to compete against other schools and experience high-quality sporting facilities. The funding has enabled greater participation in School Games events and supported the development of teamwork, leadership and positive attitudes towards lifelong physical activity.

    £3,000 – After-School Clubs

Funding was used to provide a wide range of after-school clubs delivered by teachers, teaching assistants and external providers, ensuring pupils had access to a broad and inclusive extracurricular programme. Sports clubs included football and dance, delivered by specialist external coaches, alongside a variety of enrichment clubs such as book club, arts and crafts, cooking club and performing arts, led by school staff. This diverse offer enabled pupils with a range of interests and abilities to engage in extracurricular activities, increasing participation, enjoyment and confidence. The variety of clubs also supported pupils' physical, social and emotional development, encouraged healthy lifestyles and provided additional opportunities for children to develop new skills, build friendships and foster a lifelong love of being active.

    £3,600 – Additional Swimming Provision

Funding was used to extend swimming provision across four year groups, ensuring pupils received regular, progressive swimming instruction throughout Key Stage 2.
Previously, only Years 2, 3 and 6 accessed swimming lessons; however, this year the programme was redesigned so that pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 all received a six-week block of swimming lessons. This approach provides greater continuity, allowing pupils to build upon their skills year after year rather than having long gaps between lessons. As pupils have already been accurately assessed and grouped by ability this year, next year's programme can begin immediately with teaching matched to each child's level, removing the need to spend the first lesson on assessment. This maximises teaching time, accelerates pupil progress and ensures children receive targeted instruction to develop swimming competence, confidence and essential water safety skills, supporting more pupils to meet the National Curriculum expectations by Year 6.
