Headteacher's Update

Friday 17th April 2026

It’s been a fantastic first week back across the school, with so many examples of children demonstrating our CAW Qualities—Aspiration, Excellence, Resilience, Respect and Effort—in all that they do.

We were proud to mark Autism Awareness Day this week, with children engaging thoughtfully in a range of activities to deepen their understanding and celebrate neurodiversity. Through vertical learning opportunities, pupils worked collaboratively across year groups, showing great respect and empathy as they explored what autism means to different people. Our Autism Ambassadors played a key role by creating a video to share their own experiences, which was shared in classes and prompted meaningful discussions. Children also demonstrated real aspiration and creativity by designing autism awareness badges, with some of these thoughtful designs set to be made into real badges—a wonderful way to continue spreading awareness across our school community.

We’ve also had some brilliant success in our Easter Reading Challenge, with eight children winning Easter Eggs as a reward for their commitment to reading. This is a fantastic example of aspiration and effort, with children choosing to engage with books beyond the classroom. Developing a love of reading is such an important part of our curriculum, and it’s always a pleasure to celebrate those who show such dedication—well done to everyone who took part.

The Reception Robins have also been working incredibly hard to demonstrate excellent behaviour for learning, and it was fantastic to see them earn their class celebration this week. Their toast party was thoroughly enjoyed by all and was a lovely way to recognise their collective effort and commitment to doing the right thing. The pride they showed in achieving this together was a wonderful example of resilience and respect in action.

Next week sees the launch of our new attendance incentive, which we discussed with classes this week. Each time a class achieves 100% attendance, they will earn a gold coin, and once they have collected eight coins, they will be able to choose a class reward. This initiative is rooted in our commitment to excellence and aspiration, encouraging every child to be in school, on time, every day. We look forward to seeing classes demonstrate resilience and effort as they work towards their rewards.

Finally, I’d like to recognise the fantastic effort from our Year 2 children, who have been working incredibly hard during their mock assessment week. They have approached this with focus and determination, showing great resilience as they prepare for their national assessments in the coming weeks. Their positive attitude and commitment to excellence have been evident throughout, and we are very proud of all they have achieved so far.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all on the gate next week.
