Friday 1st May

This week, we were pleased to welcome a maths specialist from within our trust into school as part of our continuous commitment to developing our curriculum to make it as best it can be. Throughout the day, lessons were observed, team teaching took place and staff worked collaboratively to further strengthen our maths curriculum and teaching practice. It was wonderful to see the children rise to the occasion and show such confidence in their mathematical understanding. Across the school, pupils impressed our visitor with their use of ambitious mathematical vocabulary such as addends and estimate, demonstrating the depth of understanding they are developing in lessons.
Year 4 particularly shone with their super-speedy fluency in recalling times tables facts, showcasing the hard work they are putting into preparing for the Multiplication Tables Check. Meanwhile, Year 6 continue to demonstrate personal excellence in their maths learning, with many children consistently beating their own personal bests and showing real determination to improve further. We are incredibly proud of the resilience and effort they are applying as they strive for success.

Art and design remain a highly valued part of our curriculum at CAW, and we are proud to teach Art or DT every week across the school. In two weeks’ time, we will be launching our Geography-Themed Arts Week, during which each year group will explore a significant geographical wonder of the world and create both collaborative canvasses and individual artwork inspired by a particular artistic style. We are very much looking forward to seeing the children’s creativity flourish and would love for families to join us at our exhibition after school on Thursday 21st May to celebrate their fantastic work.
Looking ahead, our annual family survey will be shared during the week commencing 18th May. We are always keen to hear feedback from our families on all aspects of school life as part of our commitment to continual improvement. We hope that recent developments to our communication systems have been helpful, including the online booking system for parents’ evenings, the opportunity to book meetings with SLT during parents’ evening, our weekly bulletins with key information and diary dates, online end-of-year reports, and our daily Facebook and Instagram posts which provide a valuable window into your child’s school experience. These all form an important part of our communication strategy, and your feedback will help us continue to refine and improve what we offer.

Tomorrow sees our wonderful ogre from Cafe At The Edge Of The Woods take centre stage in our Children’s Parade float. We are so grateful to the team of volunteer parents and carers who have helped make our vision a reality. We really hope to see you at the Children’s Parade tomorrow—we are float number 6, so will be in the first group of the procession! If you can't attend, check back next week for plenty of photos of the day. Let's hope for dry weather!
I hope you have a brilliant bank holiday weekend and look forward to welcoming children back on Tuesday.
