It has been another fantastic week at City Academy Whitehawk, and it feels as though we are still riding the Wellbeing Week wave! The positive atmosphere, excellent attendance and happy buzz around the school have continued well into this week, and it has been wonderful to see children arriving each morning ready to learn with smiles on their faces. A reminder that our brilliant free Breakfast Club is available every day from 8:00am at the canteen gate. There's no need to book—children can simply come along to enjoy a healthy breakfast, spend time with friends and start the school day positively. We know that a great start to the morning helps children feel settled and ready to demonstrate our CAW Qualities of Aspiration, Excellence, Resilience, Respect and Effort throughout the day.
Across the school, children have continued to impress us with their hard work and determination. Year 1, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 have all approached their assessments with fantastic attitudes, demonstrating both excellence and effort as they showcased everything they have learned this year. Alongside their classroom learning, Year 4 enjoyed an exciting visit to Yellow Wave Volleyball, where they developed new sporting skills, challenged themselves and worked brilliantly as a team. Today, Year 3 are exploring the local area with a visit to Tide Mills, bringing their learning to life through first-hand experiences and showing great curiosity about the natural environment and local history. Our Year 4, 5 and 6 athletes also represented the school brilliantly at the Withdean Athletics competition, taking part in a wide variety of track and field events. The children demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, resilience and teamwork throughout the day, and we were delighted to see their efforts rewarded with a number of well-earned medals.
Today also marked the start of our annual Sports Week, with Year 5 and Year 6 getting us underway in fantastic fashion. There was plenty of determination, encouragement and celebration as children competed in a range of events. Unfortunately, one event had to be abandoned—the tug of war—as our Year 6 cohort proved to be just a little too powerful this year... snapping the rope during their practise! It certainly brought plenty of laughter and has become an instant Sports Week memory. We are looking forward to welcoming families to the remaining sports events next week and seeing children across the school enjoy opportunities to challenge themselves, support one another and celebrate success. We also wish our Year 6 children the very best as they head off on their residential next week. We know they will create wonderful memories together, continue to demonstrate our CAW Qualities and make us all incredibly proud.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another exciting week ahead.
