Headteacher's Update

Friday 26th June

Beat The Heat!
It has certainly been a week to remember, with the exceptionally warm weather providing a different kind of challenge for everyone! I would like to say a huge well done to all of our children, who demonstrated our CAW Qualities of Resilience and Respect throughout the week. Whether it was adapting to changes in routines, moving classrooms into cooler spaces, creating mini paddling pools in classrooms or making the most of water play opportunities to cool down, the children approached every change with positivity and maturity. Staff also rose to the challenge brilliantly—although I think it's fair to say that the electric fans have been the hardest-working members of the team this week! Despite the heat, there were still plenty of smiles, laughter and wonderful memories made across the school. We are also looking forward to returning to our usual school uniform and normal lesson routines next week as temperatures begin to settle back down.

Rescheduled Sports Day

Thank you to all of our families for your understanding regarding the difficult decision to postpone several of our Sports Days. Whilst we know how disappointing this was for children and families alike, the health and safety of our school community always has to come first. As communicated with you earlier in the week, we have now confirmed the rearranged dates, which are as follows, at 9:15am:

  • Reception Sports Day – Wednesday 1st July

  • Year 1 & 2 Sports Day – Tuesday 7th July

  • Year 3 & 4 Sports Day – Thursday 9th July

We cannot wait to welcome you into school to cheer on the children and celebrate their fantastic sporting skills.

Year 6 Residential

One of the undoubted highlights of the week was our Year 6 camping residential. The children threw themselves into every activity with enthusiasm, teamwork and a brilliant sense of humour. There were countless hours spent playing Uno Extreme—complete with an ever-growing collection of "residential-only" house rules that seemed to change with every game! Alongside plenty of competitive card games, the children enjoyed making s'mores around the campfire, cooking on the BBQ, woodland exploration, den building, water Olympics, capture the flag and so much more. This year definitely held the record for most hours spent having water fights and we were proud of how the children did this collaboratively and safely, whilst having all the fun they wanted.

The children, as is typical of our residential, went to sleep extremely late on the first night and got up with first dawn on the Tuesday morning. They were unsurprisingly astonished when they discovered it was only 9am when they were asking for lunch! The residential is always such a special part of Year 6, giving children the opportunity to make lifelong memories with their friends before the end of primary school. A huge thank you goes to the staff who gave up their own time to organise and run the trip. Their care, energy and commitment ensured that every child had an unforgettable experience, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they did.

The children who stayed at school had a brilliant week of activities including cooking classes, art classes, outdoor sessions, multi sports at East Brighton Park, a trip to Hollywood Bowl and plenty of water play!

I hope you enjoy the cooling temperature over the weekend and I look forward to welcoming all children on Monday morning, especially seeing the Year 6 campers at a reasonable wake up hour!
