  • Headteacher's Update

    Friday 13th March 2026

This week has been all about children showing us what they've learnt so far this year, as many pupils undertook some reading and maths assessments. This provides children a brilliant opportunity to show us what concepts they've retained and have been able to apply to an out-of-lesson context. This information then feeds into teachers' planning and targeted teaching over upcoming weeks and months. We're really proud of the children's effort, excellence and resilience that's gone into this week!

As well as our assessment week, we also continued to explore the world around us through International Womens Day, British Science Week and Year 3's Italy Day as part of their History & Geography topic.

    International Women's Day

We celebrated International Women's Day where children worked in vertical learning groups (an older class with a younger class) to learn about an inspirational woman from around the world who has focused on environmental issues. This links to the work we are doing to earn our Gold Our City Our World status. We are currently Silver from all the action and education we have been doing over the last few years. More information can be found here: https://www.ourcityourworld.co.uk/ and this post from our Facebook to learn more about the women we studied.

    British Science Week

This week we celebrated British Science Week with the theme “Curiosity – What’s the Question?”. Pupils across the school took part in exciting activities that encouraged them to ask questions and investigate the world around them. Children created posters exploring the question “What makes children’s lives positive?”. KS2 also enjoyed live lessons where they investigated light energy and learnt about the Moon and our solar system. Classes explored their own curiosity questions, including Year 2 investigating “Why is slime stretchy?” and Year 3 exploring “Why do shadows change size?”.

    Year 3 Italy Day

Year 3 had a fantastic Italy Day where we “travelled” across Italy without leaving school! Throughout the day, they 'visited' different Italian cities including Pisa, Venice, Rome and Bologna, learning interesting facts about each place and what makes them special. They even explored Vatican City, the smallest country in the world! During their journey, they discovered famous landmarks, learned about Italian culture, and took part in fun activities linked to each city. One of the highlights of the day was getting to try some delicious Italian food, which helped them experience a real taste of Italy. It was a wonderful day of learning, exploring and enjoying Italian culture together!
