    Friday 15th May

    Attendance Success!

A huge congratulations to both of our Year 4 classes, Magpies and Jackdaws, who became the very first classes to achieve an impressive 8 out of 8 gold coins in our new attendance initiative. Their reward was a well-earned ice cream party on the trim trail with Mrs Storey, and the children had a brilliant time celebrating together outdoors. There was lots of laughter, chatting and excitement as they enjoyed their treats in the sunshine—until the weather suddenly took a dramatic turn! In true British style, the sunshine quickly became a hailstorm, resulting in a very speedy dash back inside as “ice” of a very different kind began falling from the sky. The children found it hilarious and it certainly made for a memorable celebration. Well done again to both classes for setting such a fantastic example of what can be achieved when you all work together. The big question now is… which class will be next to earn their 8 gold coins?

    Year 6 SATS - Completed!

This week also marked SATs week for our Year 6 children, and we could not be prouder of the resilience and effort they have shown throughout. The children approached the week with maturity, positivity and determination, recognising that the assessments were an opportunity to showcase all of the learning and hard work they have put in over their primary school years. Their confidence this week has been built through high-quality lessons, small group work, homework, after-school mentoring and the many additional opportunities provided to support them along the way. Whilst SATs are a useful and important measure of progress, they remain just one part of who our children are. At CAW, we value and celebrate every child for the full range of talents, qualities and strengths they bring to our school community, and we are already looking forward to seeing the children’s creativity shine during Arts Week next week.

I would also like to extend a huge thank you to all of the staff who helped make the week run so smoothly and to every adult who has contributed to the children’s journey over the last seven years. It takes an enormous team effort to support children from Reception through to Year 6, and we are incredibly grateful for the care, dedication and encouragement shown by staff over that time. A special thank you also goes to one of our Year 6 families, who very kindly made some fantastic biscuits decorated in our school uniform design for the children to enjoy during SATs week. The children absolutely loved them, and it was such a thoughtful gesture that brought lots of smiles.

    New Books in our Library!

Our school library shelves have recently had an exciting refresh, with a whole host of fantastic new books now available for children to enjoy. Brand new copies of favourites such as Cat Kid Comic Club and Dog Man have already proved hugely popular, and it has been wonderful to see so much excitement around reading. As always, reading remains a hugely important part of school life, and we continue to encourage children to develop a lifelong love of books. Many families will also have seen information this week about our AR competition through emails and Facebook posts, and we look forward to seeing lots of children taking part. We are incredibly grateful to our hardworking TA librarians and junior librarians who help keep the library organised and running smoothly each day. We always warmly welcome donations of books, and families should also keep an eye out for our upcoming book “amnesty” later in the year as we continue working to restock and refresh our library spaces.

    Hatchlings in the Hatchlings!

And finally, there has also been great excitement in Hatchlings Nursery this week, where the children have been carefully looking after duck eggs and eagerly awaiting their arrival. The moment the ducklings began hatching brought huge excitement for children and staff alike, and it has been a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved. Children across the school enjoyed visiting the fluffy ducklings, learning more about a duck’s life cycle and even discovering fascinating new vocabulary such as an “egg tooth” — the special part ducklings use to help hatch from their shells. The project created lovely opportunities for collaboration between nursery and older children, with pupils showing great care, curiosity and respect as they shared in the experience together. We know we will all miss our chirping little friends when they return to their farm home!

I would love to share warm wishes to all of our families for the final week of term. A reminder that next week is a four-day week, with an INSET day on Friday, and we very much hope to see many of you at our Arts Week Exhibition at 3:15pm on Thursday, where the children will proudly showcase their fantastic creative work.

    All the best,

    Florella Scozzafava
