Aspiration & Impressed Visitors!
This week, it has been wonderful to see children returning to school so positively after the half-term break and getting straight back into their learning. We launched the week discussing our CAW quality focus of the week, which is Aspiration. We always link our CAW Quality to a Significant Figure (a year-round programme linking influential figures from both the past and present to CAW Qualities to help children understand how our CAW Qualities can be demonstrated in real life). This week's Significant Figure was Emma Watson which produced lots of great conversation about Harry Potter and her advocacy work.
We have also welcomed four different groups of visitors into school this week, including leaders from within our Trust and visiting teacher trainees from the University of Zurich in Switzerland. All of our visitors commented on the calm, purposeful and productive learning environments they observed, as well as the welcoming, polite and respectful manner of our children. These comments are always a credit to both our pupils and staff and reflect the positive culture we continue to build together.
As well as all this, we had a wonderful group of Year 3 and 4 children who attended a Racquet Sports Festival where they got to play a variety of different racket sports, including Squash! The children represented CAW superbly, were engaged in their learning and showed aspiration in their interest to try something new.
National Assessments Y1 & Y4

Next week is an important one for several year groups. Our Year 1 children will be completing their Phonics Screening Check, whilst Year 4 will be taking part in the Multiplication Tables Check. Both assessments provide children with an opportunity to show off all of the hard work they have put into their learning throughout the year.
For this reason, attendance is particularly important next week, and we encourage all children in these year groups to attend school every day if they are well enough to do so. We have got lovely morning activities and mini breakfasts to serve for all children who are in school!
Wellbeing Week

Alongside these assessments, we are very excited to be launching our very first Wellbeing Week. Throughout the week, children will have opportunities to take part in a range of activities designed to promote healthy lifestyles, positive wellbeing and new experiences. We will be running a selection of before-school clubs including Yoga, Athletics, Running and more! Children simply need to arrive at the breakfast club gate by the canteen at 8:00am—there is no need to sign up in advance. We will also be providing healthy snacks at break times for all children to encourage children to try new foods and develop healthy habits. In addition, we are delighted to be welcoming visiting professionals from healthcare and sporting backgrounds who will be sharing their expertise, teaching new skills and introducing children to a variety of future career pathways.
Accelerated Reader Competition Year 2-6

Finally, we have also begun work on our Summer 2 Trust-wide Accelerated Reader competition. This round focusses on quiz accuracy, encouraging children not only to read regularly but also to ensure they fully understand what they have read before completing their quizzes. We know that children who are comprehending their books get a lot more satisfaction and enjoyment from reading, which then has a positive knock on effect as they go on to choose to read more! We will be sharing further information via email next week, but with £150 available to spend on our school library if we win, we are determined to give it our best effort! As always, thank you for your continued support in promoting reading at home—it makes a huge difference to children's success and enjoyment of books
I hope you have a great weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing you and your families on the gate on Monday!
