Curriculum
Here at CAW, we have used the freedom we have as an Academy to design a curriculum which is broad, balanced, rigorous and provides our children with the skills to become successful learners. Based upon the National Curriculum for England, our curriculum ensures that children benefit from English and Mathematics curriculum rich in aspiration, alongside our commitment to promoting Physical Education and participation in sports of all kinds. All learning opportunities are underpinned by our CAW qualities and a growth mind-set approach to develop resilience and perseverance within our children.
In May 2024, Ofsted commented, 'The school’s carefully sequenced and rigorous curriculum is highly effective. Staff prepare children for the next stages of education, instilling the necessary language and communication skills through enriching activities and opportunities.'
Our humanities curriculum takes children on a journey through time from ancient history up to the modern day. There are three units a year that build upon each other to give children a strong understanding of how ideas and discoveries throughout history have been formed; we teach the skills and knowledge to support children to become geographers through each of these areas of study. There is a strong spiritual, moral and social and cultural focus across our curriculum and it teaches children to be inquisitive, open minded and aware of the impact of a range of civilisations and cultures. Our rigourously crafted timetable enables all subjects to be well taught; maximising this learning time enables all children to demonstrate their personal excellence across the curriculum. We hold a Family Engagement Event at the end of each half term during which all families are invited into school to celebrate this excellence.
We continue to ensure our curriculum is of the highest quality and have written bespoke documents to support our school and wider community. During our most recent visit, Ofsted noted that, 'The school’s ambition for its pupils is reflected in the curriculum design. Staff have carefully defined, rigorous and carefully ordered knowledge. The school has created the curriculum methodically to raise pupils’ aspirations and broaden their horizons. For example, it develops pupils’ learning in religious education to build greater community understanding and fosters a sense of tolerance and respect.'
