Science at CAW
To best meet the needs of children in Science we provide a high-quality science education setting the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
We use our Skills progression to ensure comprehensive coverage of the science curriculum and working scientifically objectives are taught alongside unit objectives. To promote engagement and aid retention, the teaching of Science will be highly engaging; we strive to ensure all lessons include a practical and discussion element, with most science lessons being focused around a key question.
Teachers will enter all sessions with an ambition for pupil retention of key facts – these will be carefully considered when Medium Term Planning. Science is all about children understanding the world around them and as such we aim to tackle big problems and theories but present them in a context children can relate to. We believe pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They should be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.
