Curriculum (Pre-2020)

This section of the website is currently under review but provides an insight in to curriculum and pedagogy at City Academy Whitehawk.

Here at CAW, we have used the freedom we have as an Academy to design a curriculum which is broad, balanced and provides our children with the skills to become lifelong learners. Based upon the National Curriculum for England, our curriculum ensures that children benefit from a specific focus on the core requirements of the English and Mathematics curriculums alongside our commitment to promoting Physical Education and participation in sports of all kinds. All learning opportunities are underpinned by our CAW qualities and a growth mind-set approach to develop resilience and perseverance within our children.

Our Paragon curriculum is something that is unique to Aurora Academy schools. It is a humanities based curriculum that takes children on a journey through time from ancient history up to the modern day. There are six units a year that build upon each other to give children a strong understanding of how ideas and discoveries throughout history have been formed. There is a strong moral and ethical focus within Paragon and it teaches children to be inquisitive, open minded and aware of the impact of great cultures through history. Paragon lessons are hands on, engaging and a lot of fun. They bring subjects together so that learning time is maximised and all children can show off their strengths. We hold a Paragon event at the end of each half term when parents, carers, friends and wider family are invited into school to share in the children’s learning.

We continue to broaden our curriculum and in 2020-21 and have some exciting announcements to make later in the Autumn Term. Further information as to the learning that will take place across all subjects is available on request. It will be published on this website as soon as possible once final versions of each area have been finalised.
