Monday 18th May

Welcome to the last week of term!  A bit of an unusual one but I'm sure you've been super busy at home doing so much learning. This week there will be two uploads before the 'half-term break'. We won't be uploading learning next week but check out our Thursday upload for lots of ideas of fun activities to keep everyone busy over the break.

If you would like to take part in our Electa Live Lessons and have not yet signed up or would like to know more, please call the school office to get signed up or ask any questions.

Maths: This week we will be starting our position and direction learning. This knowledge organiser will be a good help throughout this weeks learning.

Monday – Left and right. Use these videos to learn your left and right Left and right robot; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9MLhGmyPko  Silly voices left and right song and game; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRbwFq9665k

Activity - Then have a go at completing this challenge. You don’t have to do all on each challenge as there are lots. When you feel confident have a go at the next challenge! If you don’t have a printer either call the school and we can print one off for you or draw one out for your child.

Tuesday – Clockwise and anti clockwise Watch this video to learn about these two types of direction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lqrO_F0vyg and https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zjyb9j6

Activity – special CAW challenge card. Can you complete them all?

Wednesday – North, South, East and West Watch this song to learn which is which. Can you follow the instructions in the song and point in the right direction? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2I81_BFb-s When I was little I learnt to remember this by saying Never Eat Shredded Wheat or Naughty Elephants Squirt Water. They are silly and fun to say but help to stick in your mind. Which do you like best?

Activity 1 – Position yourself in a room and label the walls North, South, East and West. Make sure they go in the right order! Then one person calls out a direction and everyone else who wants to play has to run to that place. When you get confident, take down the signs and see if you can remember.

Activity 2 – I have made a special North South East and West quiz for you on Purple Mash and set it as a 2do…I wonder who can get 4/4! Good Luck!

Writing: Well done for writing your elf stories. Did you read them to your family? What was their favourite bit to hear? What was your favourite bit to write? Remember you can send them to us at homelearning@caw.brighton-hove.sch.uk if you’d like us to read them too! The next writing challenge is a bit of fun. It’s all about riddles which are like short poems.

Monday - Read and come up with your own riddles on p.17 of your elf booklet

Tuesday - perform your riddle to your family; can you learn it by heart? You could send a video to the homelearning email account for us to enjoy!

Wednesday - rate the learning, p.19 and p.20

Reading:  Monday – Read the last chapter of Ollie and the Great Stink on Purple Mash and complete the quiz (also attached as a PDF). Take this time to finish any other chapters you have missed. Remember, this is a bit of a trickier book for Year 2 so it’s fine for someone to help you with this.

Tuesday – Book Review! Click this link for a template for a book review or design your own. What did you like? What did you learn about the Victorians?

Wednesday – Before we do some performance poetry on Thursday and Friday have some fun completing these 2 wordsearches which include words that Year 2s need to know how to read and spell. How many words can you find? Wordsearch 1, Wordsearch 2.

Spellings: Well done on practising the first set of homophones. Are you ready for the next set? Click this link to find the Loose Lear words https://app.sirlinkalot.org/contents_page/contents-23/content.html or download the free app. We are focusing on the pairs; brake/break, hour/our, passed/past, peace/piece, plain/plane, quiet/quite, weather/whether You will have a special challenge on Thursday linked to these spelling words.

Science: using everything you have learnt this term, can you have a go at doing this activity? It is a version of the one in the picture below. If you don’t have a printer, call the office and we can print for you, or you could draw out your own.

Paragon: This is our last week of learning about the Victorians. Which activity from the Home Learning Menu at the top of the page are you going to do? I hope you enjoyed watching the Magic Grandad Episode. Here is another one all about Seaside Entertainment. What is the same and different compared to Brighton beach now? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exFmcLMjKsw

Finally, check out the new documents and ideas at the top of this page. Can you have a go at the Lego challenges? Can you complete the My World booklet? This is a lovely booklet helping children and their families understand the current Coronavirus situation. If you would like a printed copy of any document or would like any support or guidance, please call the school or send us an email.

I'm really looking forward to hearing about the learning and fun you've been doing at home. Don't forget you can email us on Purple Mash or by using the homelearning@caw.brighton-hove.sch.uk address. I miss you lots and would love to see what you are up to. Happy Learning!   Miss Scozzafava
