Year 4 Autumn Half Term Update!

Year 4 have had a tremendous start to the year!

In Autumn 1, we have been learning about the Ancient World of India in Paragon, focusing on the Indus Valley Civilisation. We investigated what culture grew up around the Indus River and how rivers were used for farming. We learnt that the Indus people were some of the first to farm crops using the fertile soils from around the Indus River.

We had the opportunity to visit the River Cuckmere in Seven Sisters where we sketched the different parts of a river before following the river from the source to its mouth (the sea). This deepened our understanding our how all rivers start at the sea! We also had the opportunity to touch upon our Science topic - Living Things and Their Habitats. We found lots of interesting creatures living in the rock pools after stopping for lunch on Seven Sister’s beach.

As well as India, we have been delving into the magical world of ancient Thailand, through our text: The Firework Maker’s Daughter – a story about a young girl with a dream. Our writing has been themed around fireworks and characters from this exciting tale, as well as some of our artwork! Pupils learnt how to stitch fireworks for their firework poem publishing.

In Maths, we have been building upon our knowledge of place value, addition and subtraction as well as engaging in some exciting problem solving activities! Pupils have been working hard to improve their multiplication skills and enjoy using Purple Mash to tested their skills!
