  • Friday 29th May

    Fri 29 May 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you very much to those of you who have called in today to ask questions about the wider opening of school following Prime Minister Johnson's announcement last night.

Monday 8th June is the very earliest that our school might be able to open more widely. Please see Tuesday's letters for more detail.

I am optimistic that we can start to introduce new groups of children during June in addition to our childcare offer that has been running for the past nine weeks.

If and when we are able to open for Nursery, Reception, Year One and Year Six as the Government has suggested, it is highly unlikely to be all year groups at once; it will not be possible to provide enough adults for all of the small groups described in Mr. McCarthy's letter until shielding is lifted for our many colleagues in isolation. I will be contacting the parents of Nursery, Reception, Year One and Year Six directly next week to discuss the possible return to school.

I am so grateful for your continued messages of support during this time and am excited by the prospect of opening the school more widely in the coming weeks.

    Sincerely,

    Thomas McMorrin

  • Wider opening of schools

    Tue 26 May 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Please read Trust CEO Tim McCarthy’s latest letter about the wider opening of Aurora Academies.

You will see in Mr. McCarthy’s letter that June 8th is the very earliest that City Academy Whitehawk might be able to open to a larger number of children. We are all keen to open to more children as soon as it is safe to do so and I have sent my Risk Assessment for wider opening to Aurora for their approval.

I look forward to contacting you following the Government briefing on Thursday 28th.

In addition to our twice-weekly homework upload, our teachers have been teaching live online every morning over the past two weeks. They have done a great job and I'm grateful to them for their hard work - congratulations and thank you to the children and parents who have taken part. This starts again on Monday 1st June. I urge you to accept this offer of teaching for when your children are at home. Please contact homelearning@caw.brighton-hove.sch.uk if you want to sign up for this and I will ensure that we get back to you during this half term week so that you are ready to start next Monday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Thomas McMorrin

  • Friday 15th May

    Fri 15 May 2020

    Dear All,

Please read the letter from Tim McCarthy, Aurora Academies Trust CEO (see Letters page).

In this letter, Mr. McCarthy explains the Trust, and our school's, response to the Government's recent announcement about the reopening of schools.

I have said many times that I cannot wait to open the gates to children so that we can get back to normal but please rest assured that we will only do so once we have ensured that it is as safe as possible to do so.

Thank you to everyone who has accessed our online teaching this week, it has gone amazingly well. Congratulations to the children taking part. Please contact the school office or email us at homelearning@caw.brighton-hove.sch.uk. if you have not yet taken us up on this offer and would like to.

I will let you know of our plans as the situation develops.

    Sincerely,

    Thomas McMorrin

    Home Learning Email Address

Dear Parents and Carers of Year 1 to Year 6,

We have all been so impressed with the home learning going on Purple Mash and through the Electa Live lessons. Well done to all children and families who have taken part!

We now have a new email address for you to send any home learning you would like to share with your child’s class teacher. The address is

    homelearning@caw.brighton-hove.sch.uk

This account will be checked 3 times a week and teachers will respond to these on Mondays and Thursdays.

Remember you can still email your class mates and teachers directly on Purple Mash. If you’re not sure how to do this look at the guide on the Home Learning tab of the school website. If you’ve forgotten your log in details, call the office. Reception children can continue to share their learning with their teachers through Tapestry.

We can’t wait to see what you’ve been up to!

    Tue 05 May 2020

Please read the following update to sign up for online learning at CAW!

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been so impressed with the excitement surrounding all the home learning being accomplished! We have loved hearing and seeing about what you have been learning and we are really proud to be supporting you in this. As we continue to be at home for the foreseeable future, we wanted to add to our offer of home learning.

With that being said, we are thrilled to announce that we will be offering online lessons for students in the coming weeks.

Across our Academy Trust, schools have been using an online platform called E-lecta Live (https://www.e-lecta.com/). E-lecta offers many fantastic features that will enable CAW to offer a range of learning opportunities from across the national curriculum, it will also add routine and structure to your child’s day.

E-lecta will allow teachers to interact with children and offer opportunities to learn about:

    British Values

    Rights Respecting Schools

    History

    Sport Science

    Geography

    Reading

This is a really exciting opportunity and in order for this to get started we need to have your permission to use your email address (in order to send classroom links).

If you would like to opt in for our live online learning, please can you respond YES to this email, if you consent to us sharing your email address with E-lecta Live to set up an account as well as the names of children you are providing consent for.

Please can you let us know as soon as possible.

    Many thanks,

    Mr McAdam
